SiPM applications in positron emission tomography: toward ultimate PET time-of-flight resolution

چکیده

The development of PET/MRI multimodality, requiring magnetic field immunity the photodetectors associated with an increased demand for time-of-flight capabilities a strong impact on effective PET sensitivity and image quality, has pushed medical imaging community to progressively replace photomultipliers, traditionally used in scanners, by solid-state photodetectors, avalanche diodes (APD) silicon photomultipliers (SiPM). Recent years have seen spectacular progresses performances SiPMs, terms photodetection efficiency (PDE), noise cross talk reduction, timing performance, etc., not mentioning their availability large variety dimensions packages, as single but also linear arrays matrices different sizes. As result this, SiPMs are becoming choice new generation scanners (TOF-PET)

The effect of fasting on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging

As a nuclear approach, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a functional imaging technique which is based on the detection of gamma ray pairs emitted by a positron-emitting radionuclide. There are certain limitations to this technique such as normal tissue uptake. Therefore, it has been recommended that patients prepare before scanning. Fasting for a short while before PET imaging is an exampl...

Applications of positron emission tomography (PET) in neurology.

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a powerful imaging technique which enables in vivo examination of brain functions. It allows non-invasive quantification of cerebral blood flow, metabolism, and receptor binding. In the past PET has been employed mainly in the research setting due to the relatively high costs and complexity of the support infrastructure, such as cyclotrons, PET scanners, an...

Photo-Detectors for Time of Flight Positron Emission Tomography (ToF-PET)

We present the most recent advances in photo-detector design employed in time of flight positron emission tomography (ToF-PET). PET is a molecular imaging modality that collects pairs of coincident (temporally correlated) annihilation photons emitted from the patient body. The annihilation photon detector typically comprises a scintillation crystal coupled to a fast photo-detector. ToF informat...
